4 Unique Dates That Will Delight Your Love Interest

by | Feb 1, 2020 | tips for everyone |

These great date ideas will be totally unique and save you money!

When it comes to dating and date ideas, most people do not have a large breadth of knowledge or ideas. If it’s not dinner, it’s a movie. If it’s not coffee, it’s drinks. These all have their time and place, but I feel like the FUN of dating has devolved.

What’s more, if you’re early on in the dating process, proposing a rote date will do little to impress your love interest. And boring dates don’t help build chemistry.

I also like to set up situations that can foster emotions and memories. I cannot remember the dinners or drinks I had while dating, but I totally remember the nighttime walk through closed gardens, shopping at vintage clothing stores for our nighttime outfits or going snowtubing!

Socrates said, “I can learn more about a man in an hour of play than in a lifetime of conversation.” So if you want to move your relationship forward–and have a good time while doing it–get out there and DO something!

Go treasure hunting

Look at what is hidden around San Francisco!

There is nothing like the feeling of finding treasure! Whether it’s in a video game, you are antiquing or it’s literally, finding treasure.

This is why we like scavenger hunts, Easter Egg hunts and even hide and seek. We like to find what is hidden. Personally, I love to go scavenging in old buildings and factories to find cool gears, wood, fixtures and other fun stuff.

But there’s a way to go treasure hunting any day you want. It’s called Geocaching and using this website you can join what is dubbed “the world’s largest treasure hunt.” Basically, people hide packets with fun little things inside and record the precise location. Then you have to find it!

Inside there will be little trinkets like shells, bead necklaces, or other inexpensive items. If you take any of them, replace what’s in there with your own treasures. It’s fun, gets you outside, triggers your dopamine and adrenaline and is totally unique.

Become a local expert

While our country is on the newer side, relatively speaking, it still contains hundreds of years of history.

And that’s just human history. If we want to talk about environmental history or geological history, it can span millions of years.

Wherever you are, there will be a historical society of some sort nearby. If you live out in the country, find some local legends, or some modern history and go walk the area. You can also trace the path that settlers took to or through your area.

In cities, go and find the oldest buildings you can or take a sponsored history walk. When you can stand in a place that, say, a famous speech was given, it can really connect you with the past in ways you didn’t feel earlier.

I remember standing at Brú na Bóinne in Ireland, which has been an important location since the Neolithic times. Standing there thinking that literal Stone Age people stood at the same spot, really gets into your soul. And knowing a lot about your area makes for great conversation.

Get in touch with your artistic side

I love it when I’m walking in my city or town and I see someone with an easel or camera set up, capturing the moment.

I stop what I’m doing and look around to see what they see and usually it’s something beautiful that I may have never noticed or just take for granted. I see them and say, “I should do that!”

Well that makes for a great date. It doesn’t matter if you’re not artistically inclined, the process is the fun part! Grab your date and explore some of the more picturesque places in your area. It could be the top of a local hill, a beautiful old tree in the country or a bustling city street.

One thing I have learned over all these years is that there is beauty everywhere and it just takes us to find it. I suck at drawing, but when I was in Florence, I visited The David and wanted to draw it. You can see my attempt below. Not good, but I totally remember the experience and still have this drawing over 2 decades later.

Do a completely irreverent/goofy photoshoot

I’m a big goofball and love being silly. Part of it is that I’m very confident, so I don’t mind looking like an idiot. The other part is yelling, “Wheeeeeeeeee!” while riding your grocery cart through the parking lot is FUN!

But a lot of us stop having fun because we’re worried what other people will think. This could be a whole article itself… When you are dating someone, you’ve got a partner in crime to do wacky stuff with!

There are tons of cheap photographers everywhere, whether they’re students, building their portfolio or just starting out. Check Groupon, your local town/city’s website, or your local college.

Then have some fun with it. Dress in ridiculous clothes and take faux-serious shots sitting on your courthouse steps. Or get SUPER athletic and set up some badminton nets and get some action shots.

I guarantee you that not only will you guys be having belly laughs, but everyone who sees you will be jealous as well. And when you look back at those photos, they will always bring back great memories.

New and Fun Trump Usual and Boring

Anytime you can do something with someone that’s outside of the norm, you’re going to remember it for a long, long time.

And let’s be honest, everyone is sorta sick of the same-old-same-old type of dates.

If you DO decide to do dinner, have a dress theme. Go as 80s and just totally act normal. You want to stand out and have some fun in this life and finding the person that also finds this fun is a great hunt!
